Arsenal transfer news LIVE - Starlet joins Chelsea as Tielemans saga takes twist (2023)

Mikel Arteta appears to be keen to make use of his ties at Manchester City in order to strengthen his Arsenal squad ahead of next month's Premier League campaign.

The Gunners have already acquired Gabriel Jesus from the Etihad Stadium outfit this summer and they have now struck a deal for versatile fullback Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Ukraine international will also provide some much-needed cover in central midfield too, his preferred position.

Speculation continues to snowball linking Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane with a return to the Premier League. The arrival of Sadio Mane matched with Serge Gnabry extending his contract with the Bundesliga outfit has led some to question where Sane fits into Julian Nagelsmann's plans, and Arsenal appear to be keeping tabs on the situation.

Talks are continuing elsewhere too, with midfielders Youri Tielemans and Lucas Paqueta cited as two players that could join the list of Arteta's summer recruits - that includes the likes of Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira.

Sane on Arsenal

There have been plenty of rumblings that Arsenal could make a move for Leroy Sane this summer after missing out on Raphinha. The Gunners are desperate to bolster their forward options and are prepared to splash big cash to get the right target.

While links with the Germany international might seem audacious at best, there is reason to believe that Mikel Arteta might be the right man to pull the winger back to the Premier League. The two joined City at the same time in 2016, one as a player and the other as Pep Guardiola's assistant.

The pair got on instantly with Arteta enjoying coaching Sane and Sane happy with his development under Arteta. Speaking in 2020, it is clear to see that the Bayern Munich star still holds the Spaniard in high regard.

Sane said: "I can just say positive things about Mikel Arteta. Since we started working together, he helped me a lot on the pitch.

"He tried to improve my football; he told me what I did good and what I did wrong, and he tried to work on it. Next to Pep, they both really helped me and improved me, to bring me to the next level.

"Even now, at Arsenal, for me you can see he’s doing a great job. You can see he has a concept, a way that he wants to play, a way that he wants his team to play, and obviously it will take some time until everybody really understands it.

"I think he will do a great job as a [head] coach too."

Arsenal fans on Martinez

Arsenal fans are a mixed bag over how they are feeling since missing out on the signing of Lisandro Martinez.

The Gunners had been the first Premier League club to register interest in the Argentina international and had made a bid of around £25million. However, that was rejected with Ajax demanding nearly double that amount. Mikel Arteta pushed Edu into trying to bring in the defender this summer after making him a priority.

As well as being able to play centre-back, Martinez can operate at left-back and defensive midfield. His signing would have been a major coup for the Spaniard, who is desperate for some squad depth after missing out on the Champions League last season. However, it was not meant to be with Manchester United stealing in under their Premier League rivals.

Kante would turn down Arsenal, says Glen Johnson

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has claimed that N'Golo Kante would snub a move to Arsenal - as they are not on the same level as his former side.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Blues midfielder, but Johnson is adamant the Frenchman would have no interest in moving across the capital.

He told Bettingodds.com: “Any team would want N’Golo Kanté. We all know what he does and what he’s going to do because he delivers every time he plays.

“I can’t see Chelsea letting him go to Arsenal to be honest.

“Arsenal are nowhere near a threat to Chelsea, so I can’t see N’Golo wanting to go there just yet. He’s got plenty more in the tank.”

Saliba speaks out

William Saliba has told Arsenal's club media that he will stay at the club and fight for chances under Mikel Arteta despite reports linking him with a move away.

“We spoke a little bit on Monday and will speak more,” Saliba said. “My plan is to fight and work with the team, win as much as possible, and grow more.

“It feels good to be back and starting pre-season. I’m so excited to continue training and playing in the friendly games.

(Video) Wesley Fofana 'intent' on sealing £80m Chelsea transfer despite Brendan Rodgers meeting - news ...

"It’s important to be here with the fans, as well as my teammates. I hope we’ll enjoy some good training and games which is important before the start of the season.”

After a £27million exit from Saint-Etienne three years ago, Saliba has never played for the Gunners and had just two years currently remaining his contract. Extension talks are reportedly being held with the central defender, and one would imagine that how often he features in the early stages of the upcoming campaign will determine whether the player puts pen to paper on a new deal.

Unhappy Leno

Bernd Leno is understood to be growing increasingly frustrated at Arsenal and Fulham's inability to reach an agreement of a prospective transfer.

That's according to CBS Sports, who claim there are no sign of a breakthrough between the two clubs on the horizon. The Gunners goalkeeper has reached a full agreement with the Cottagers over personal terms and his contract - he's now waiting on the two parties to agree on a fee.

Arsenal have already turned down an offer from Fulham thought to be in the region of £10million. The Gunners' counter proposal is understood to be closing to £15m.

Arsenal ‘re-ignite’ Arthur interest’

Arsenal have reportedly re-ignited their interest in signing Juventus ’ Brazilian midfielder Arthur, who has been left out of the Italian club’s pre-season training camp in America. The midfielder has been transfer listed by the Bianconeri and reports from TMW (published by Football Italia) claim that the Gunners have recently re-entered talks to sign the midfielder, who has spent the past two years in Turin.

The Gunners have previously been linked with interest in the 25-year-old, with reports claiming that other European clubs are monitoring the midfielder’s current situation, with his former club Barcelona reportedly among the other clubs keen on a move for the 22-time Brazil international.

Arthur still has three years on his contract at the Juventus Stadium following his arrival for €82m (£69.8m) including add-ons in 2020.

The impact Jesus has had

Arsenal's coaching staff and team-mates are understood to have been blown away by Gabriel Jesus' impact at the club.

According to The Independent, the Brazilian has made quite the impression during the the Gunners pre-season tour of the United States and there is ‘real excitement’ around the 25-year-old striker.

It's thought Jesus has already had a huge influence on proceedings in pre-season, and that some of an Arsenal persuasion feel that he has – to a some extent – been released from the shackles he was placed in at Manchester City.

Saliba transfer request

William Saliba will demand a permanent exit from Arsenal this summer if he isn't guaranteed a starting spot, according to The Independent.

The Frenchman has spent the last three years out on loan, and seems to have no intention of doing the same next season.

Saliba has apparently been offered a new contract at the club, but is unwilling to sign one until he receives guarantees over his game time.

Akanji on the market

Arsenal have been put on red alert after Borussia Dortmund put long-term target Manuel Akanji up for sale.

Akanji has long been eyed by the Gunners, who are in the market for defensive recruits after likely losing out on Lisandro Martinez. According to Sky Germany, Akanji is one of four players who Dortmund are willing to let go.

The summer signing of Niklas Sule and Nico Schlotterbeck means that he has slipped down the pecking order at Signal Iduna Park. He has also entered the final year of his contract, which will not be extended, opening the door to a departure.

Tapsoba on the way?

Arsenal are reportedly preparing a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.

FootballTransfers report the Gunners are ready to reignite their interest in the 23-year-old, who they were keen to acquire last summer.

Leverkusen value Tapsoba between £34m and £42m.

Matt Maltby

Arsenal told need they more signings

It's been a pretty decent window for Arsenal - but Gabby Agbonlahor says they need to chuck more money at the squad ths summer.

Speaking to TalkSport, he said: “For Arsenal it’s a big statement signing Gabriel Jesus, but still, they need more work.

“There’s talk of Zinchenko, who I think will be a great signing, a great addition. He’s versatile, but maybe they need another right-sided winger as back up to Bukayo Saka because Nicolas Pepe has not done it.

“These teams know that they need to keep improving their squad because it’s going to get harder and harder to challenge for the top four.

“Arsenal don’t want to be cut adrift. They want to bring in top, top players because Spurs are doing the same.

“Spurs have had a great window so it’s going to be even harder this season to get that top four and Man United fans, once again, will say that I don’t think they’ve got much chance to get top four again this season.”

Tielemans may leave Leicester City as a free agent

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that midfielder Youri Tielemans could leave the club as a free agent next summer when his contract expires.

The Belgium international has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Manchester United also cited as interested. Reports have circulated that the playmaker may be available for a cut-price figure of £25m, with The Foxes keen to cash in whilst they have the chance.

Though Rodgers has admitted that the 25-year-old may remain at the club next season before departing. As per Leicester Mercury, the former Liverpool boss was asked if Leicester would accept Tielemans staying for the final 12 months of his deal before departing on a free transfer, Rodgers said: “I’m not sure. For that to happen that means there’s been no acceptable offer or there hasn’t been an offer. That’s the reality.

“From Youri’s perspective, he’ll continue to train and work. He’s very focused on getting himself fit and like he always is with the team, he’s a great guy to have in the squad. Until that changes, I will give everything to keep developing him and the team. There is a possibility, but we have to wait and see.”

Arteta hints at positive Saka talks

After Raheem Sterling was sold to Chelsea, fears at Arsenal were growing regarding Bukayo Saka according to reports. The North London outfit felt that Manchester City may have been collecting the funds to launch their pursuit of Saka and deem him as the ideal replacement for his international team-mate.

The Arsenal academy product has two years left of his current contract and the Gunners are desperate for him to sign a bumper deal that extends way beyond that point. And Mikel Arteta has hinted that those talks are going well.

Asked about the winger's contract negotiations, he replied: "We will try and we both have the same intention and it’s a matter of time.”

Arsenal considering Colwill

Arsenal are thought to be rivalling Crystal Palace for the signing of highly-rated Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill.

The 19-year-old flourished on loan at Championship club Huddersfield last season and there's a belief that he may be deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge with Thomas Tuchel working on deals to sign three new centre-backs.

With his path to the first-team somewhat blocked, Colwill could leave and Patrick Vieira's Palace have been given encouragement in their hopes of signing the defender, according to the Evening Standard. Arsenal are also said to be showing interest in the England Under-21 international.

Injury update

Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka were both on the scoresheet as Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 last night in a pre season match. The Gunners also weren't at their full strength against their Premier League rivals, with several key players absent from the matchday squad.

Att full time, Mikel Arteta explained his injury list situation: "We have Kieran [Tierney] with a slight problem, we have Emile [Smith Rowe] with a muscular niggle, Tomiyasu as well and Ben [White].

"Vieira has a slight problem in his bone, hopefully he will start to train in the next week or so."

Bassey chooses Ajax

Despite interest from Manchester United, Arsenal and Brighton, Calvin Bassey looks set to take his career abroad and sign for Eredivisie outfit Ajax.

The Nigerian will join from Rangers in a deal worth £18.7million that could rise a further £4.9m with add ons, says Sky Sports, meaning that he is the club's record sale. Bassey can be delpoyed as a central defender or as a left-back, meaning that he was a logical alternative for the Gunners to target having missed out on Lisandro Martinez earlier this week.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal are still in the market for cover in central defence now that they are closing in on Zinchenko, who will provide depth in left-back.

Sane's view on Arsenal revealed

Zinchenko recap

Yesterday, Arsenal and Manchester City reached a full agreement over fee and payment on the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Ukraine international has not yet agreed personal terms with the Gunners, according to Fabrizio Romano. However, negotiations are going on over salary and personal details.

The full-back had been eyed by Mikel Arteta earlier this year as he looks for cover at left-back with Kieran Tierney injury-prone and Nuno Tavares struggling in his debut Premier League campaign. Though it is also believed that the former City coach wants Zinchenko to play in midfield, his preferred position.

Tielemans pursuit

Arsenal will continue their attempts to sign Youri Tielemans after they complete a deal for Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Leicester star has been chased all summer but progress has been slow with Mikel Arteta eyeing other transfers first. But the Belgian will become the main target once Zinchenko has been brought to the club, as revealed in this Sunday's edition of the Mirror.

Thankfully for Arsenal fans, a deal to sign the Manchester City star is not too far away after a transfer fee was agreed in the region of £30million. The Ukrainian is poised to become the fifth signing at the Emirates this summer, following fellow Etihad dweller Gabriel Jesus as well as Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira.

Gnabry signs new deal

Serge Gnabry has ended speculation over his future by agreeing a new two-year deal with Bayern Munich.

The former Arsenal man was linked with a return to the Gunners and Chelsea in recent weeks as talks over a new contract stalled.

But The Athletic has now revealed that the 27-year-old has now committed his future with the German giants for a further two years.

Marcelo Flores 'unhappy'

Arsenal prospect Marcelo Flores is reportedly unhappy that he was left out of the first team's pre-season tour of the United States.

The trip to America will see the Gunners take on Everton, Chelsea and Orlando City, and Flores believed that he would be involved in the preparation for the upcoming campaign. La Opinion report that the playmaker's exclusion from the travelling side has not gone down well with the player, especially as Arsenal prevented him from being named in the Mexico Under-20s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers - with the tour of USA the given reason.

After losing Omari Hutchinson to Chelsea recently, Mikel Arteta must be careful not to overlook some of his academy's top talents going forward or runs the risk of losing the next wave of talent coming through the ranks.

Saliba transfer request

William Saliba will demand a permanent exit from Arsenal this summer if he isn't guaranteed a starting spot, according to The Independent.

Arteta set Conte challenge

Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silverstre has insisted that Mikel Arteta has to finish above Antonio Conte this year.

Arteta's Arsenal side were pipped by Conte and Tottenham to a Champions League spot in the final weeks of last season.

William Gallas claimed that made Arteta's season a failure; something that Silvestre doesn't disagree with. He told Lord Ping: "Mikel Arteta is still a young manager but he definitely needs to finish above Antonio Conte next season.

"If you measure the achievement on qualifying for the Champions League, then [Gallas] is right to say he probably did fail last season but we need to remember where they started, where they finished the season before and how hard the beginning of the season was.

"This season they need to improve on consistency in 90 minutes and from one game to another."

Arsenal keen on Colwill

The 19-year-old flourished on loan at Championship club Huddersfield last season and there's a belief that he may be deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge with Thomas Tuchel working on deals to sign three new centre-backs.

With his path to the first-team block, Colwill could leave and Patrick Vieira's Palace have been given encouragement in their hopes of signing the defender, according to the Evening Standard. Arsenal are also said to be showing interest in the England Under-21 international.
